Most Haitians live on less than $2 a day, and 80% of the population is under the poverty line.
Which makes what happened yesterday all the more terrible. If you have anything to spare, please help out.
Why does that make it so much more terrible? They’re left with no resources no matter what they lived on beforehand, monetary units are meaningless when applied to 3rd world countries due to the reduced cost of goods, and the poverty line has no place here. It was an natural disaster, and now these people are homeless. If anything, it’s more fortunate for the rebuilding of their society, because it takes less to get them up to their previous state of living.
