See this? This is why I can’t watch Anime. Even looking at this is too much for my brain, it feels like it’s going to implode. They’re all fucking crazy I tell you.

I feel I should inform you that Gintama, which this is from, is a deliberate satire of other anime and contains loads of toilet humour, absurdity, and Japanese cultural in-jokes. So what you’re doing? It’s sort of like watching an episode of the Simpsons and declaring that all Western animation is insane.

Sorry, I was being hyperbolic (I frequently am). I’m just constantly afraid of anime. I’ve seen a few which I’ve really liked, Gantz being my favourite, but then my friend goes and lends me FLCL and I was scarred. There was also one where a woman was walking with a giant talking cat in a kind of dream world that I didn’t understand that freaked me out too. And by ‘Freaked me out’, I mean it was like a waking nightmare. I’m fine with horror movies and I’m usually not freaked out by anything, but there’s a level of absurdity reached in some Anime that boggles my mind up. The main problem is that my friends know that it freaks me out, so when I go to their house they show me the most insane fucked up what is happening here Jesus Christ shit that they can find, just to watch my reaction. Nevertheless, it’s good to know that this one is satire.

Are you talking about Azumanga Daioh? Why is that terrifying? I can understand a certain kind of person being freaked out by FLCL, and I don’t think anyone walked away from Evangelion unscathed, but Azumanga? What’s so terrible about that?
